On my bedside table. A Murder mystery from Elizabeth George; The Arabs, a book which attempts to untangle the Middle East and Ken Follett’s latest.
I have a collection of books about Venice or set in Venice.
For a non fiction read there is this curiously unimpassioned book written about a city that incites passions. Jan Morris’ book about Venice is so much deeper and passionate, but then I suspect there is also a lot more to Jan who began life as a chap! And then there is John Berendts book “City of Falling Angels”. This is a wonderful read about the fire that destroyed the Fenice in the 1990s and the beaurocratic bungles and mafia involvement in its restoration. It is indeed beautiful (both the book and the theatre).
