No snow

p10109661It only rarely snows in Australia so the sight of  snow is a novelty.  In 2007 my trip to Italy co-incided with the rare sight of snow on Mt Versuvius and the inbound flight over the Italian Alps covered in snow was breathtaking.  But snow in Venice was not to be one of the 2008 highlights.   Another of  my regrets is that if I had been able to stay until atleast New Year’s Eve I would have been treated to the sight (and feeling) of snowflakes falling in the city.    However as I was leaving Venice the air was clear enough to see over the lagoon and Canareggio and there, in the distance the majestic Dolomites with snow on them!
